Today we’d like to introduce you to Fares Azani.

Hi Fares, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.

I was born in Iran and migrated to Turkey when I was 13 years old. After living in Turkey for a year, I migrated to the United States at 14 years old not knowing any English.

Learning English was rough but I’m not foreign to different languages. Due to my moves, I had learned how to speak Kurdish, Turkish besides my native language Farsi. Thanks to having to learn so many languages, this made it easier for me to learn English. I was able to speak English fluently within a year of my arrival due to being trilingual.

After graduating high school, I attended a community college and studied real estate and business management.

I dropped out due to a lack of interest even though I only had two classes left to get an associate’s degree. I knew I didn’t want to pursue a career I wasn’t passionate about.

My dad was a builder in Iran and had a lot of experience building and remodeling homes. He would take me many times to his work sites where I would see the transformations, he would give to the houses he would worked on. I enjoyed seeing the process and being able to see how the projects turned out once they were completed. Once we moved to the US, he focused on just HVAC instead of building. When we bought a house here, that was when I was able to work on remodeling our house. That is when I fell in love with construction and remodeling. I enjoyed seeing my hard work transform our home and have it become the dream home we wanted. I really enjoyed the creative aspects of being able to design my home as well as knowing what I was able to create. That’s when I grew a passion towards building and remodeling homes and I started working towards owning my own construction company.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?

Moving to a new country and working towards owning my own construction company at such a young age wasn’t a smooth road. There was actually a lot of obstacles in that journey, but those obstacles taught me a lot. Like they say, the greater the obstacle, the more glory in overcoming it.

My first year of getting my business started was one of my toughest years. Even though I had construction knowledge and experience, it takes time to get clients starting from nothing due to the fact that most remodeling and construction clients are referral based. I had to learn how to expand my business as well as how to digitally market my business to let more people know about my company.
However, this is my third year now, and after trial and error, my work finally has paid off. Most of my clients today are referral based and it has helped me grow my business and reach more customers.
